LOOKING FOR THE APPLICATION?
Please read the below information first...
PLEASE CHECK THE 'DOGS TO ADOPT' PAGE FOR THE DOG OR PUPPY'S FEE AND UPDATED INFORMATION!
1. Puppy expenses
If you feel you can't afford a puppy, remember that there are tons of first year expenses with a puppy. Puppy class, new toys, the rest of their shots, neutering, food.
2. What do our fees include?:
Dogs and puppies that are brought into rescue are dewormed, crate-trained and current on appropriate vaccinations. Dogs over the age of six months are heartworm tested and neutered/spayed, and can go to any local Petco for a valuable coupon book.
3. Children or teens applying:
Our adoption contract is a legal document and is legally binding. Because of that, we ask that children or teens do not call or fill out the application. Also, because this is a family decision, parents need to know about the adoption. No surprises!
4. Our dogs:
We very seldom get in pure-breds. 95% of our dogs are mutts. What that means is that they cannot be AKC registered. They are already born, and looking for homes. We do our best to guess breed and adult size, but that is all we do, guess! Many people have their heart set on a the type of dog that they had while growing up. It's time to expand your horizons, and go for the gold! Try something new! Unless you are limited due to your own physical limitations, or apartment rules, etc. it's time to branch out and get one of our great dogs!
Please do not ask to be put on a waiting list for such popular dogs as Maltese, pure-bred Poodles, Pugs, Cock-a-poos, pure-bred Chihuahuas, pure-bred Poms, Bichons, or any other extremely popular dog. If these do end up in shelters, they are adopted quickly, and do not come to rescue. We suggest you try a good breeder. A good breeder is one that shows their dogs and has champions in their puppies genealogy.
5. Take a class, PLEASE!
Classes are not cheap, we know that. But we get tons of questions about things that are covered in a puppy class or Basic obedience class. Fact from Petfinder: 96% of dogs surrender to shelters/rescues have had NO obedience training. It is NOT an insult to your intelligence to take a dog class. Unless you are a professional trainer, you can benefit from one. Besides, the professional trainers take their dogs to classes. While you are free to take your dog to any area trainers, we do have ones we have worked extensively with, and will recommend them to you. Just ask. Also, we have puppy and dog books available from that one of our local trainers is giving us at a discounted rate, so that your purchase will benefit the rescue.
6. Commitment:
You are adding a new family member to your home. Accidents will happen with a new puppy. A dog or puppy may chew a favorite pair of shoes, etc. These are normal puppy behaviors. Often a training class can give you hints as to how to deal with these frustrations. Please be willing to work through issues such as housebreaking, chewing, digging up a favorite flower bed etc. (not all puppies/dogs dig either, but just in case.)
